Today Landon got his last dose of Septra to clear up his urinary tract infection. Yep, little boys can get those. Apparently it isn't common at all for boys over the age of one to get them, but for some reason Landon got one. How did we find out you might ask, well, he'd had a fever on and off for awhile and after 3 days straight of a pretty high one, we decided to take him in. Landon is really a good baby when he's sick so it's hard to tell if he's really sick, plus I'm not one to rush my kids in to the doctor at the first sign of something.
When we got to t he Instacare (yep, it was a Saturday, of course) his fever was 105 degrees. Poor kid! His cheeks were so puffy and red. After checking him for an ear infection and running a strep test and finding nothing the doctor decided to get a urine sample to test for a UTI. She asked if Landon was potty-trained (um, I don't know of many 14 month olds that are potty trained) and since he's not they had to cath him. Once again, poor guy!
When the results came back positive for a UTI she was pretty shocked. There was blood, protein and white blood cells in his urine. The blood and protein are semi normal, but not the white blood cells. So the doctor told us to have his urine checked again after he finishes his anti-biotic to make sure all the bacteria is gone and he's all clear. Tomorrow I'll have to take a sample into the lab to have it tested. They gave me a nice little bag that I get to stick to his little bum and hope that it catches some urine. Fun for us!
