I guess not

Landon's urine came back still positive. So we are on antibiotic #2! Can't we just get better?? This is getting really old! I kind of just wonder though if it was a sampling error because it's not like you get a very sterile sample since it's in the bag and then to the cup...you get it. So who really knows but I don't think he still has a urinary tract infection. He does have a nasty cold now though. Poor kid is coughing a ton, he got it from his sister. Can spring please come soon?

Done

Today Landon got his last dose of Septra to clear up his urinary tract infection. Yep, little boys can get those. Apparently it isn't common at all for boys over the age of one to get them, but for some reason Landon got one. How did we find out you might ask, well, he'd had a fever on and off for awhile and after 3 days straight of a pretty high one, we decided to take him in. Landon is really a good baby when he's sick so it's hard to tell if he's really sick, plus I'm not one to rush my kids in to the doctor at the first sign of something.

When we got to t he Instacare (yep, it was a Saturday, of course) his fever was 105 degrees. Poor kid! His cheeks were so puffy and red. After checking him for an ear infection and running a strep test and finding nothing the doctor decided to get a urine sample to test for a UTI. She asked if Landon was potty-trained (um, I don't know of many 14 month olds that are potty trained) and since he's not they had to cath him. Once again, poor guy!

When the results came back positive for a UTI she was pretty shocked. There was blood, protein and white blood cells in his urine. The blood and protein are semi normal, but not the white blood cells. So the doctor told us to have his urine checked again after he finishes his anti-biotic to make sure all the bacteria is gone and he's all clear. Tomorrow I'll have to take a sample into the lab to have it tested. They gave me a nice little bag that I get to stick to his little bum and hope that it catches some urine. Fun for us!

Just for fun

Here are some pictures of Kayleigh from a few weeks ago. I took them in the morning before she went to pre-school. She's wearing one of her new outfits she got from her b-day. I love the one where she's being goofy! She is getting so big so fast, a lot of days I sit and wonder why she says and does the naughty things she does. But then I look at photos and just remember all the times when she's good and happy. I'm gonna miss this little girl when she grows up!

Can you draw a duck?

One night Kayleigh took her drawing board with her to bed and she drew a duck. Michael and I were super impressed with it and had to take a picture to document! Funny thing is, I don't think she could do it again if we asked her to.

1st child vs. the 2nd

He has recently learned how to clap and he's super proud of it!
Trying on my hat for size
Eating a grape
Why is that the second child just doesn't get his picture taken as much as the first? I was thinking about it the other day and I know I have a pic of Kay in pretty much every baby outfit she had. Now Landon on the other hand, I don't think so. So, I am really trying to be better about it. Even if I just take some random shots once every few days I think that will be good to look back on. Here are a few as of late.

What we've been up to

Kayleigh and Landon in the car as we pulled into our garage from Marie's house.

Well, last week our whole fam was sick. It started with Landon throwing up on Monday night and then again on Tuesday morning. After that I got sick on Wednesday. Wednesday night Kayleigh started throwing up and by Thursday afternoon, Michael was coming down with it, too. By Saturday we were all feeling better, but it was a really nasty stomach flu that we had. I know that's been going around and I feel bad for anyone who has had it. Thanks to my mom and mother-in-law who both brought us Sprite, applesauce, Gatorade, etc. (all the sickie foods) while we were sick, it was greatly appreciated! C'mon, I live by my family for a reason! Just kidding.

Once we were all better, I thought it would be fun for us to go down to my sister's house and have a sleepover. I decided to go on Tuesday night because Michael has his GMAT prep course on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Since he doesn't get home til around 10 and the kids don't see him that night anyway, I figured it'd be a perfect night.

The cousins had a lot of fun playing together and being with each other. Poor Landon had a hard time going to sleep in different surroundings, but once he was asleep, he slept thru the night. Marie got a new air mattress that I slept on and it was great, I didn't even wake up once! While I was down there I decided I need to be a better sis and visit more often. I think the last time I was down there was in October. That's really bad! As we pulled into their driveway Kayleigh told me she didn't remember what the inside of their house looked like. Oh man!

Back to the GMAT...yes, Michael is thinking about going back to school to get an MBA. It's crazy because I never thought he'd want to go back to school, it's not really his thing. But, after a lot of thinking we've decided it's kind of the next step for our little fam if we want him to be able to move up in the business world. So, he hopes to get accepted for fall semester at the U. Since he works at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, he would get half tuition which would be GREAT! He might apply other places though, we'll see.

I'm really proud of him for wanting to do this because I know it will be hard, but definitely worth it in the long run. He will take the GMAT on Feb. 24th. Then it takes a couple weeks for his score to come back and then he'll apply. Let's hope he can get in!

Family birthday party

Happy birthday! It kind of looks like Christmas.
Minnie doll she got from aunt Staci, Tyler and Brooke.
Kay opeing balloon puzzle from Nana and Grandpa.
Cute shirts from Suzy!
Scrabble Junior from Nana and Grandpa.
Cute Landon just chillin with something in his mouth.
Fun car for her dollhouse Suzy and Grandpa gave her.
Blowing out the candles.
Eating the ice cream cone towers.
Once again ( I feel like I've typed these words a lot today), it was such a fun party! Thanks to all our family who came. Grandparents, great grand parents, cousins, aunt and uncles, we love you! Kayleigh enjoys spending time with each of you. We are grateful that most of you live close and we can spend these special times with you.

The little girls really liked eating the cake! I'll admit, it was a tiny bit painful seeing all my hard work cut up! :-) Kayleigh loved all of her presents, she was super spoiled! That night we let her stay up playing with all of her new things. It's been nice the past couple of days the t.v. has gotten a rest! She's been just hanging out in her room playing.

I think back to the day Kayleigh was born and it doesn't seem that long ago, but then I remember she's already 4! I can't believe how time has flown. Since she was born, we've moved, bought our first house, added another baby to the fam, got a new car, gone on some really fun vacations and had some pretty great times as a family. Can't wait for the next 4!

The cake

I have a book that has really cute cake ideas in it for kids. I like to let Kayleigh pick her cake out. This year, she has been telling me for awhile that she wanted the castle cake out of that book. Of course it's like, I swear, the hardest cake in there. Anyway, honoring her wishes I decided I'd make it.

The night before her b-day I made the 3 8X8 cakes it needed. Then after church on her birthday I began cutting up all the cakes and icing them. It took 2 1/2 hours, and some of that time Michael was helping me. It was super hard and stressful! The cake was so soft, it really just wanted to crumble as I tried to stack it 3 layers high and ice it. It was tricky, but after some adjustments to the instructions on how to make it, it finally turned out alright.

I might have to make a rule that no one can pick the castle cake again. Although, I've done it once and I'm sure the second time would go much faster. My mom also gave me a good hint that if you freeze the cake, then cut and ice, it won't crumble as easily...makes perfect sense.

What matters most though is that Kayleigh liked it. I think her favorite part of it was the towers made out of ice cream cones. Decorating it with candy was probably my favorite part of doing it. Well, eating it was pretty good, too!

Presents from Mom and Dad

She had to have a "funny" picture
All ready to open.
Cutie!
Her most favorite gift.
More for her doll house, lucky girl!

Kayleigh has been wanting a Barbie for quite a few months now. She loves playing with them at Nana's and at some of her friend's houses. I've been on the fence for awhile about if I wanted to do the whole Barbie thing. Every time she would ask about them I just kept telling her maybe for Christmas or her birthday she would get one. Well, after her friend party she told me in a really sad voice, "I hope you or Daddy give me a Barbie."
Being the push-over mom that I am, I told Michael I needed to run to Wal-Mart for one last gift. I am so glad that I got it though, she LOVES it! It is her most favorite gift, at least that's what she says. She really has loved playing with all of her new toys and gifts.
On Sunday before church she saw her presents all wrapped sitting on the table. She told Michael that she hoped one of them was a Barbie. We didn't open her presents till after church. With each gift she opened, she was very excited and happy. Of course that made us parents happy, too! And I guess I've decided which side of the fence I'm on now...
